Sometimes painting the portrait of
one person can be intimidating but
when you add a second face, it can
be very stressful. If you have one
done accurately and then mess up the
second all your work is gone and
you've got twice the work to do to
make up for it. This one was also
challenging because the photo was
taken outside on a bright, sunny day
under a tree. The wind would blow
the branches and every photo had
this odd play of light. And lastly, up
until the time of this commission I
had never done baby hair. Oh that
stuff is wispy and difficult to render
the reality of how fine and almost
transparent it is.
